Objective

Work Performed

   Document Department Setup & Management:
  Have created documentation department for two startups:
   > Defined document types
   > Created templates and boilerplate and wrote style guides;
   > Established procedures;
   > Recommended staffing levels and wrote position descriptions;
   > Wrote and edited internal and external documentation;
   > Designed, wrote, posted, and maintained Websites
   > Costed all aspects.
[Accomplishments: In in each case, I finished the job according to my schedule, saving thousands of dollars from client's original estimates.]


   Documentation Design (online & print):
    »  Have designed all or part of several online and print documentation suites (including selecting tools, drafting boilerplate, creating cross-media templates and style sheets, setting policies for version control, and establishing procedures for single-sourcing).
[Accomplishments: During a single 5-month contract, created three templates, Style Guide, and version control procedures -- all while simultaneously designing and posting 30-page Website and writing 4 UGs and several white papers. (Contract was renewed to cover all other documentation.)]
    »  Have designed and maintained Web and FTP sites (including scoping decisions, audience analysis, host selection, technical implementation decisions, organization and storyboarding, writing & coding, file inventory control, turnover training).
    »  Have provided consultation on issues relating to hypertext and single-sourcing.
    »  Have spoken on hypertext to national, regional, and local professional groups, technical groups, and chambers of commerce.


   Technical Writing (online & print):
    »  Have written and/or edited nearly all types of documentation: procedures, user guides, reference materials, system overviews, engineering reports, training materials, white papers.
  [Accomplishments: In one fiscal year, wrote documentation guide conforming to MILSTD-847B, and used the guide to edit 150 engineering reports (ea. 7-140 pp.), meeting deadline in client's government contract.]
    »  Have been the Technical Writer on a mobile IT troubleshooting team.
    »  Have used following style sheets: Chicago, Microsoft, GPO, MIL-STD, MLA, and corporate style manuals (print); Yale/CAIM, UncleNetword (online). Have drafted templates and style manuals for clients.

    »  Have taught English, library research, online searching, and medieval history. Techniques have included lecture, tutorial, and hands-on training.


Technical Recognition

   »  From 1995-97, was Technical Assistant on CompuServe's Hypertext Forum.
   »  Have addressed an international conference; a national convention; four regional conferences; and several local business, professional, and computer groups. (Topic in each case was an aspect of hypertext; some conference handouts available in Archive.
   »  Have written newspaper feature story, essays, and bibliography on hypertext.
