Activities
Scribble & Count is revising its services. There are several reasons for this, but one of the primary reasons is our impending move to the mountains. Denver is only an hour away; but neither of us wants to make the trip on a 10X/week basis, so we are emphasizing services that are more project- (vice process-) oriented. This should allow more flexibility: telecommuting, overnight stays near the job site, or a combination of both.
The new services are:
Document Department Setup & Management. S&C will evaluate needs and create the necessary infrastructure (policies and procedures; styles, templates, and boilerplate; position descriptions and staffing; document maintenance and retention schedules and procedures. Detailed costing for budget approval included. As a follow-on or a separate assignment, S&C can undertake short- or long-term management of a documentation department. Includes assistance necessary to accelerate turnkey process, such as helping to find and train permanent employees. Details.
Website Design & Architecture. Evaluation and analysis of current Website. Organization of revised Website, authoring content, coordinating graphics, indexing, site maintenance. Details.
Software Documentation. Authoring or revision of print and/or online (WinHelp or HTML) help documentation. Can include testing as part of documentation process. Initial work can be from specs or code. Details.
Corporate Styles & Document Conversion. Creation or revision of corporate styles (and accompanying templates and boilerplate). Coordination of print and online styles to facilitate document conversion or single-sourcing. Details.
S&C has had working agreements with several Denver-metro technical professionals, particularly with a graphics artist, a VB programmer/WinHelp author, and a database programmer. We also have contacts within several local professional organizations. Recruiters often call us looking for beginning and mid-level tech writers, or offering one of theirs if we are in need.
We certainly expect to maintain these contacts for overflow work and specializations beyond our expertise. But we aren't the only highly trained, successful information specialists leaving the urban rat race for idyllic surroundings; and we intend to establish a high-altitude network, tentatively called the Mountain Technology Alliance -- though if anyone has a better name, we'll second its use.
