"McMingos". Recalling the rumor that the dispute began over a proposed fast-food outlet, two large signs were erected on the Upper Lot, announcing McMingos diner. One of the signs consisted of vivid pink arches on a discordant chartreuse background (quite similar to the color scheme used in this series); the other sign, equally garish, had a menu of flamingo road kill. The County authorities, in a fit of pique, immediately ordered both signs removed.

Note: |
Both Bowman and Sanders deny, with a vehemence that most except the County authorities have found credible, any knowledge of, or complicity in, the erection of the offending signs. |
Does Mule Deer Ridge really need a fast food outlet?
The Conflict Deteriorates. As winter approached, the Elliots provided the herd with holiday garb. Some residents of the Gulch were not amused; others, without question, were. Which group the local wagon-maker belongs to is not clear, but he found a grotesque plastic buzzard at the Wal-Mart in the next county and placed it in an obscene position over one of the flamingos. (The species were different enough that worst fears were not realized.)

"Sheriff Porky". This outraged someone (one of the Elliotts, who had grown attached to the birds, is suspected), so they removed the buzzard and placed a ceramic "Porky Pig" sheriff onsite to maintain order. Whereupon another unidentified intruder bound and gagged Sheriff Porky, tied him to a pine tree, and stole the flamingos. (The rustler failed to notice one straggler, who immediately came over to nuzzle her erstwhile protector. The sole surviving flamingo was not, however, able to loosen Porky's bindings.)
Slowly, one by one, the kidnapped flamingos are escaping and returning to Mule Deer Country.
